Thanks for joining me! I’m Ite Lemalu, I am a New Zealand born Samoan with experience in writing (GradDip Arts – Film, Media & Television Studies, University of Auckland) and playing and teaching music (BMus, University of Otago). I am also the Media Relations Manager for the Fale Dojo professional wrestling training school, based in South Auckland, NZ. Fale Dojo is an official part of the New Japan Pro Wrestling training system.
My journey in writing began in 2016 while studying Media, Film and Television at the University of Auckland. I had returned to university to up skill and transition from music to writing. It was at that point where I grew a keen interest in pursuing a career in writing.
Since July 2018, I began writing about pro wrestling – a form of sports and theatrics that I grew up enjoying in my teenage years. The basis of my articles focus on specific wrestling events during my childhood and the two are often interwoven in my writings.
My writings have been well received and are published regularly on three websites, while the Fale Dojo content is exclusive to this website and Fale Dojo. Several of my articles have also been shared by Tagata Pasifika and Coconet TV on their social media platforms.
Although my writings have been focused primarily on a specific theme, you can also see that these stories show parallels to significant social themes such as community, music and the positive outcomes of integrating a non-western culture into the mainstream.
